Privacy policy

SaveTNet Cyber Safety, aims to create awareness around responsible digital engagement and assist victims of online abuse with the support of national and international partners. 

 

This Privacy policy should be read together with our Terms of Use, which can also be found on our website, www.savetnet.com (Website).

1                 What personal information we collect and why?

1.1            When requesting assistance from us, you will need to complete a contact form or be requested to share more details via other means like email, which contains the following personal information:

(1)             name and surname;

(2)             email address;

(3)             contact number (optional);

(4)             location (optional);

(5)             age; and

(6)             information regarding the situation you need help with.  

1.2            When submitting a public relations or interview request, request for a talk, sharing a message or story with us or offering to provide us with services, products or financial support, you will also need to provide your name and contact details in order for us to contact you in connection with your request.

1.3            In communicating with you after your request, you may provide or we may request additional personal information from you in order to assist you further.

1.4            In providing personal information to us, you do so voluntarily.  If you do not complete the mandatory sections of the form, or provide us with complete and accurate information, we may be unable to respond to your request.

1.5            We will only collect and use (or otherwise process) your personal information in order to refer you to an appropriate third party service provider, respond to your request or otherwise where the processing protects your legitimate interests or is required by law.  We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without your express consent.

1.6            We may use information you provide us for statistical or research purposes, but this information will be kept and used in an anonymised form.

1.7            Where we have referred you to a third party service provider, we may request feedback from you or them regarding whether you engaged with them and whether your situation has been resolved.  This is to ensure that we provide the best possible service to our users and refer them to appropriate service providers.  We will not request any specific details about the situation, your communication with the service provider, or events following your engagement with them unless you give us permission to do so.

2                 Sensitive information

2.1            We will not request sensitive information from you, including personal information relating to race, religion, political persuasion, trade union membership, health or sex life, criminal behaviour or biometric information (such as fingerprints).  If you voluntarily provide us with this information when submitting a request or in further communication with us, you consent to us processing it in accordance with the Protection Of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

2.2            We collect and use personal information of users who are under the age of 18 who submit requests for assistance on the website or via other communication channels.  We will process this information for the same purposes described above in accordance with the Protection Of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Sections 34 and 35..  

3                 Do we share your personal information with third parties?

3.1            We will request your express consent before sharing your personal information with third party service providers who may be able to assist you.

3.2            We may be required to disclose your personal information if required to comply with applicable law or an order of court.

3.3            We may disclose your personal information to a limited number of our employees and third party service providers (other than those who we refer you too), who assist us to interact with you.

3.4            We will never sell your personal information. 

4                 Storage and security

4.1            We may store your personal information with the web-hosting service provider appointed by us from time to time.  The storage may be in South Africa or in another country. 

4.2            Where storage is in another country, your personal information will be stored in a jurisdiction that has equivalent, or better, data protection legislation than South Africa or with a service provider which is subject to an agreement requiring it to observe data protection requirements equivalent to or better than those applicable in South Africa.

4.3            We will take appropriate and reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information.  We cannot however guarantee that, as a result of these measures, your personal information will not be disclosed in an unauthorised or unlawful manner in circumstances which are beyond our control. 

5                 Access to your personal information

5.1            You may at any time request:

(1)             confirmation that we hold your personal information;

(2)             access to your personal information;

(3)             the identities or categories of third parties to whom we have disclosed your personal information; or

(4)             that we correct or delete any personal information that is incomplete, misleading, inaccurate, excessive or out of date.

5.2. When SaveTNet partners with other companies for specific campaigns or promotions, the partner will be responsible for the management of information and will keep the "opt in" data in its original format until the participant decides to opt out from any further communications on those partner platforms.
